"To Shirr Or Not To Shirr.......That Is The Question!"
by Mikki, Shirr Magic

What to do when your walls are damaged, outdated, or just plain ordinary, is a commonly asked question.  There is of course, no one answer.  If we asked a professional decorator what to do, we'd no doubt get a myriad of costly albeit beautiful answers.   If we went to a contractor , they'd probably opt to reconstruct.  A painter would suggest painting and a wallpaperer would paper. Now if  you're someone who loves beautiful fabric and you have a sense of style that's greater than your budget.......then you'll want to consider shirring fabric onto your walls.  This technique has been around a long time but  "Shirr Magic"...Wall   Decor's, how-to videoguide lends a modern day application to this age old technique!  Best of all, this technique will create a custom look in your home...without the custom pricetag!!!

There are many advantages to doing your own home repairs, and by taking advantage of   today's "Information Highway," our options as "do it yourselfers" are at their finest!  The shirring technique offers more than just the advantage of an economical solution however, you'll not only cover a multitude of sins on those damaged walls, but by shirring your walls with fabric you'll actually improve and soften the accoustics of any room.

At this point you might be asking, "what do you mean by shirr,  S, H, I, R, R, ?" According to Webster's Dictionary, to shirr means "to gather ,as with cloth or fabric along two parallel lines."

The tools needed for this fun, rewarding, do it yourself project are as simple as: A staplegun, tapemeasure, scissors, and of course,  FABRIC, and a wall or walls.

By simply gathering your fabric in panels (using an approximate two to one formula, based on how full or loose you like your fabric) you shirr, or gather, from left to right, securing each panel at the top with staples, pulling taut at the bottom and securing again with staples.  There are lots of options for hiding these stapled areas, many of which are covered in  "Shirr Magic's" videoguide.  The video will provide you with designer tips, lots of shirring examples, you'll learn how to create that thread of continuiety that's achieved by paying attention to detail with color and design, and lots more!!!
