     Oilcloth in Action

Oilcloth - Oh, the Possibilities

Bags!
Tote is the word. Oilcloth and this Simplicity 5601 pattern are the perfect match. This tote is large and strong enough to carry groceries, a picnic, books or even double as a purse. It is easily spot cleaned with a damp cloth.

With all of the oilcloth patterns available, this tote will always be in style!

This wine bag was made from Simplicity 5601. With tulle trim and a bottle of wine, this makes the perfect hostess present.

Oilcloth Sewing Tips:
  • Pin pattern on to oilcloth in seam allowances as the pin holes will stay in the oilcloth.
  • If the pattern has fold lines (example on the hems or on the wine cozy) fold the oilcloth and pattern while the pattern is still pinned to the oilcloth.
  • Don't serge, oilcloth doesn't ravel.
  • Use a sharp needle, size 8 or 10 to make the seaming easier. Universal or ballpoint needles won't go through the oilcloth as easily.
  • Use a medium length stitch length.
  • On handles, just fold over and topstitch along the edges. No need to hide the seam inside the handles.
