Old linen and bleaching

I have a beautiful Madeira linen topsheet and pillowcase set. It has yellowing and age spots galore. How can I get it white again and stain free. Can I bleach it in a very diluted bath. What does bleach do to fine linen.
Thank You.
Erin

Hi Erin,

from personal experience I would say that bleach is much too harsh for fine linen. I have had good luck with "white" tablecloths by soaking them overnight in "Napisan" which is a nappy cleaning agent. I then hang them in sunlight on the clothesline which is an additional bleacher!

You may have to repeat this, but it shouldn't ruin your linen.

Regards

Reet Petite
