Silk knit jersey pronounced [jur-zee] is made by interloping of yarns to produce a fabric with a smooth, flat surface. The back of this jersey is uniform in texture and looks like small loops. Jersey is a machine-made fabric and can be made from silk, wool, nylon, rayon and other fibers. It is soft and elastic, used for garments.
The silk fiber is triangular in shape with rounded corners. As the flat surface of the triangle shape reflects light, the sheen of silk is unmistakable. Our Silk Knit Jersey drapes beautifully without clinging and is equally suitable for dresses, blouses, skirts, and draped type slacks.
When sewing with our Silk Knit Jersey, a ball point sewing machine needle in a small to medium size is recommended.
Although silk fabrics can be washed, we recommend dry cleaning. If washing the finished garment is important, we recommend that the Silk Knit Jersey be pre-washed prior to garment construction.
Our Silk Knit Jersey comes in 41 colors, is 51/52” wide and weighs 4.7 ounces per linear yard or 35.5 momme. This weight is considered medium weight silk.
