Our Silk Doupioni fabric bears no resemblance to Indian doupioni. It has a flat finish with very subtle refined linen-look with very small slubs. It dyes beautifully and as a result, acquires a supple hand. This is a heavier silk suitable for classy daytime clothing. Could be great for upholstery and drapery but because of its flat finish is not considered as a decorating fabric. About this fabric: doupioni is reeled from double cocoons nested together. Threads are uneven and irregular. Italian doupioni is the finest, followed by Chinese, then Indian doupioni. It is also made from manufactured fibers such as polyester and acetate and referred to as doupionni. Silk doupioni is most often found in men's and women's fine suits and lightweight dresses. Our Silk Taffeta fabric is a medium weight taffeta (22 momme) with a soft sheen, very subtle horizontal ribbing and nice scroop [rustle]. This silk would make lovely first communion, flower girl, bridal or christening dresses or formal gowns. Iridescent taffeta, also seen below, is made with the warp yarn in a different color than the weft yarn, creating a subtle color change as the fabric moves.

While more expensive, such fine quality merits the cost. The satin organza is a perfect fabric for creating a sheer coat over a bridal dress or a classic blouse or long coat to dress up an evening outfit.
