CONTEST OBJECTIVES

European Wool Awards (EWA) is a biennial competition, open to one thousand of the most prestigious schools and universities in Europe. Its purpose is to introduce students to the creative possibilities of working in the world of wool, stimulating their creativity in fashion, innovation and design. 

There are two areas for participation:

Fashion & Design Area

Students must present a technical or fashion project based on Australian wool, with a focus on innovation and practicality.

Concept, Innovation & Extension

Students must submit a communication project, with Australian wool as the prevailing element, that clearly communicates the values and expression of wool.

 

SITUATION

At the moment, our Executive Office c/o Sistema Moda Italia (Milan-Italy) has received nearly 250 application forms, and more than  300 students are now enrolled in the competition.

Besides European students, many students from non European countries (such as Argentina, Angola, Australia, Brasil, Ghana, India, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia), attending European schools, have entered the EWA.

More than 80 schools of 20 different European states have entered the contest so far, and many institutions are still contacting our executive Office to have informations. We are waiting for several application forms from Germany, Ireland,  Portugal, Italy and the UK.

DEADLINES

 

As per request of many schools, we've decided to posticipate the deadlines

 

1) for the sending of the application forms to the 20th of December

 

2) for the sending of the projects to the 28th of February.

All the students will therefore have one more month to enter  the competition and to prepare their works.

THE FINAL JURY

The Final Jury of the European Wool Awards
consists of three prominent figures, drawn from the world of design, communication and fashion:

1) Pascal Morand : Economist, General Director of the Institut Francais de la Mode (Paris) and of the Centre Textile de Conjoncture et d’Observation Economique (CTCOE)
2) Ampelio Bucci :  Director of the  Domus  Academy (Milano), Professor of  Fashion Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship in Fashion and Design
3) Stephen Higginson: Editor and creative director of the magazine International Textiles, director of the London publishers ITBD

The President of Interlaine will chair the Final Jury.

AWARDS CEREMONY

 The awards ceremony will take place the 18th of June 2003,
in a very prestigious location in Paris.

During the evening the official delivery of a major donation to a world famous charity institution will be announced.

The prizes will be given by an Award Committee, chaired by the President of AWI.The members of the Award Committee will be
important individuals from industry, fashion, show business, the media and official bodies.

THE EUROPEAN WOOL AWARDS FOR THE CAREER ACHIEVEMENT

The Final Jury, chaired by the President of Interlaine, will award three European Wool Awards for Career Excellence based
on acknowledged merits in styling, production and distribution
of wool.

We have already contacted Vittorio Radice, Chief Executive of Selfridges Retail, and Tom Ford, fashion designer for Gucci.

The prize-winners will receive a work of art by Venini,
an extraordinary intermingling of wool and the noblest
Murano - Venetian glass.

EUROPEAN WOOL AWARDS

Beyond Expectations

 

 

Nobody could imagine such a large and representative presence at the first edition of the European Wool Awards, biennial contest promoted by Interlaine (European committee of wool factories) and patronized by the EU, aiming at boosting the creativity of young university and high-school students belonging to the 15 countries of the Union with  projects focusing on the universe of wool. Keywords: creativity, innovation and industrial appliance.

The deadline for the subscriptions was on December, 20^th and the Sistema Moda Italia’s Executive Office recorded fabulous figures, preluding the most wide and representative competition, able to involve more than 600 students working on over than 450 projects. These projects will be gathered within the end of February at Città Studi in Biella and will be evaluated by National Observatories first and by an international panel then. The total freedom given to participants to enable them to express their creativity, the high value of the prizes (20.000 euros to the winner, 10.000 euros to the second and 5.000 euros to the third for each of the two thematic areas) and the possibility to enter in a privileged way in important sector companies are with no doubt the ingredients of a highly successful formula. A wool thread, connecting and embracing the students of the most important European schools, gives the opportunity to create and spread a new and more aware consciousness of the most performing and eco-oriented fibre, in search of tomorrow’s talents. It must then be reported the fundamental support given by Australian Wool Innovation (initiative’s main sponsor), Woolmark, IWTO and, last but not least, the logistic support given by the Italian textile districts (Biella, Prato and Vicenza).

Much awaited are therefore the projects, that will be selected by the end of March by the National Observatories, to be then evaluated by the Panel at the beginning of May. The six winners will receive their respective prizes on June, 18^th in Paris during a gala dinner at the Senate, attended by important personalities belonging to different fields such as culture, industry, show-biz and press. On this occasion the Panel will award also three special prizes (consisting in works of art expressly made by Venini) for the career to as many personalities having acknowledged merits in innovation, research and distribution. 

But that’s not all. EWA means also charity. During the prizegiving ceremony, a considerable amount of money will be assigned to a prominent international humanitarian Foundation.
